Legal Action Group
LAG is a national, independent charity which campaigns for equal access to justice for all members of society. LAG was formed in 1972 out of a desire to encourage a more active approach to the delivery of legal services and the role of non-lawyers. Throughout the past thirty years, LAG has consistently worked to promote access to justice especially in social welfare law and criminal law.
Publishing
LAG publishes practical books for lawyers and advisers on areas of law which most affect disadvantaged groups, and a range of policy books and special reports produced as a result of LAG's research into current legal problems and issues. LAG also produces a monthly magazine, Legal Action, written for legal aid practitioners, advisers and policy makers.
Training
LAG runs pioneering courses designed with the needs of legal aid practitioners and advice workers in mind. Courses cover such issues as actions against the police, criminal law, community care, education, employment, housing, mental health, traveller law and welfare benefits.
Campaigning and policy work
LAG campaigns for improvements in the law and the administration of justice and is at the centre of the debate on how publicly funded legal services should be delivered. Many of LAG's policy documents can be found on its website: www.lag.org.uk.
