What Advicenow can do for you

Do you need to produce good information?

Advicenow are specialists in information provision and we have a wealth of experience working with government departments, voluntary organisations and frontline agencies. We have developed and tested strategies and procedures for producing successful information resources on rights, legal issues and other social welfare problems.

Our resources are accessible and attractive. We don't just tell people about the law, we also acknowledge the stress they're experiencing and offer advice on the skills they need to solve their problem. We use a range of learning techniques to get the message across: clear, straightforward language, jargon-busters, case studies, diagrams, quizzes and cartoons.

What can we do for you?

We can manage the production of an information resource from concept to evaulation, or take on separate stages of the production process as required.

Our services include:

  • Project management
  • Sourcing expert writers and fact checkers
  • Commissioning, copywriting, editing, proof-reading and design
  • Web publishing and printing
  • Piloting and evaluation
  • Media management

We can vary the level of our branding and editorial control, and adapt our style depending on the approach you want to take.

Our Department of Constitutional Affairs (DCA) funded family mediation guides appear under Advicenow's brand. This gave the campaign its own independent identity and let us use our innovative techniques to get the message across.

When producing the DCA leaflet for advisers on the Mental Capacity Act, we used our expertise on the information needs of advisers and adapted our style to produce a leaflet which is part of a DCA branded suite.

Who we are

Advicenow is an independent, not-for-profit information service providing accurate, up-to-date information on rights and legal issues. Over the last few years we've produced over a hundred guides and features giving readers the knowledge and know-how to deal with scores of problems. If you need to produce effective and engaging information for your clients, Advicenow can help.

  • Advicenow is part of Advice Services Alliance, an independent charity which means that we're well connected with a wide range of advice services which know what problems people have and can test materials in context.
  • We have good contacts with a network of experts, writers and peer reviewers.
  • As a small organisation we can turn projects around quickly and offer competitive prices.

Projects

Advicenow has worked with a range of different organisations to produce materials for a variety of audiences, for example:

  • Commissioned by the Legal Services Commission to produce 18 in-depth guides for members of the public. Topics include debt, divorce, discrimination, compensation and asylum.
  • DCA commissioned Advicenow to run the LivingTogether campaign, raising awareness amongst cohabitees of the myth of common-law marriage. Download figures for LivingTogether guides total more than 1.5 million.
  • Worked in partnership with other advice sector organisations in a DTI funded project to produce a self-tutor pack for advisers on age discrimination.
  • Commissioned by the DCA to produce a booklet for advisers about the new Mental Capacity Act.

'Advicenow is the liveliest, least stuffy, most accessible and understandable website on legal matters that I've ever come across'
Marcel Berlins, The Guardian
