Age equality

Jim and adviser
New rights from October 2006!
If you're an adviser, or any professional who gets asked for advice from members of the public you'll need to know about new rules outlawing age discrimination.

The Employment Equality (Age) regulations (in force from October 2006) mean that normally it's illegal to treat someone differently because of their age in employment or training.

Just want fast facts about anti-age discrimination? Then see our quick introduction for individuals: Too young or too old?

You're likely to see more clients who've been discriminated against because of their age. The new rules mean that now you can help them to do something about it.

We've produced a new advisers pack that not only outlines the law but also explains how you can use it - whatever your level of experience.

The pack is made up of:

  1. A booklet which explains the new rules
Age equality regulations: How they can help your clients (311 KB)
  2. A self-tutor guide which uses quizzes and exercises to check what you've learned
Age equality regulations: Check your knowledge! (164 KB)
  3. A flyer for you to display or give to your clients
Too young or too old? (149 KB)

For more information about age discrimination use the links in the list on the right.
