Too young or too old?

Chris
Chris's story
'I'd been at the bank for 18 months and thought I was doing really well. They told me that I could move up into management as soon as I showed I had the ability. So when they said I'd not got the promotion just because I was too young I was really upset. I'm looking for another job now. What's the point in staying there if I don't get a chance to prove myself?'

Chris's boss has decided not to promote her because of her age, not because of her ability. This is age discrimination and is illegal from October 2006.

Has anyone ever assumed that you're too young or too old to a do a particular job or go on training? If it hasn't happened to you already it might at some point in the future. Click on Age discrimination basics in the menu on the right hand side to find out about new rights to protect you from age discrimination.
