DLA Mandatory Reconsideration Letter Tool
Welcome to our DLA Mandatory Reconsideration Letter Tool. If you complete the form below, the tool will generate a detailed letter to support your claim. We hope this will make it easier for you to ask the DWP to look again at their decision about your child’s claim for Disability Living Allowance.
You have to ask the DWP to look at their decision again (called a ‘mandatory reconsideration’) before you can appeal. If the DWP don’t change their decision, you can appeal - see How to win a DLA appeal for advice.
You should ask for a mandatory reconsideration within 1 calendar month of the date on the decision letter. If this time limit has passed, you can usually still ask for a reconsideration as long as you are within 13 months. Use this tool and give reasons for the delay in the relevant box.
How To Use This Tool
Please complete the form below. If something is not relevant for the child you are completing this for, just move on to the next question. The words already in the box will appear in your letter - you just need to finish the sentence.
Please ensure you include your correct email address so that you can be sent a copy of the letter you created.
What we will do with the information
We will use the information to create a Mandatory Reconsideration request letter for you to send to the DWP. The letter can be downloaded and emailed to your address. All the information you supply is in total confidence. We do not keep a copy of the letter or any of your details.
If you need to stop
If you need to stop before you have finished, get as far as you can, and press the ‘generate letter’ button at the bottom of the page. What you have created so far will be emailed to you. You can then finish the letter later, looking back at the website for our examples.
