Thinking about suing

We are working on some new guides for litigants in person that focus on the early stages of resolving civil disputes. ‘Should I sue?’ will set out the basic concepts which underpin the civil claim process, and help people to weigh up the benefits and risks of taking legal action.

We will also look at identifying and finding the correct defendant, and how to check that they are worth suing before you begin.

The first of these guides to be published is How to sort out your legal problem before or instead of going to court. It explains what alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is and how it can be used to resolve disputes outside of the court process, in a way which can help make it possible to have an ongoing relationship in the future.
