People's Law School animations

The People’s Law School in British Columbia, Canada has made two excellent animated films on debt collection: 'You owe money' and 'Someone owes you money !'

The films are accompanied by debt collection fact sheets: You owe money and Someone owes you money!.

The People Law School was formed in 1972 by law students who wanted to create an independent, non-profit group to educate people about the law. They focus on serving people who may have particular legal education needs, including seniors, workers, students, immigrants, parents and poor people.

‘We recognise that everyone learns differently. Some people learn best by listening and talking, others by reading, and still others through training sessions. We try to provide British Columbians with the legal education tools that work best for them.

The Law School runs a number of programmes including a Violence against minority women project, a cultural minorities programme and a Justice Theatre. They provide speakers, training workshops, publications radio broadcasts, newspaper articles, and special events.

The Justice Theatre has professional actors who stage scripted dramatizations of criminal trials for students in elementary and secondary schools. There are performances on a range of topics affecting young people including bullying, street racing, shoplifting and hate crimes.

The School works in partnership with various community organisations and service providers and produces materials and broadcasts in a wide range of languages.
