Call for participants for new Housing Rights Course on Temporary Accommodation

Law for Life will be running a free course for community groups supporting people in temporary accommodation. The course will be delivered online and is funded by Trust for London and Oak Foundation.

The course aims to give participants the basic knowledge and skills needed to deal with key issues for people living in temporary accommodation. The course will be delivered in English and you do not need to know anything about housing/homelessness law to apply as this introductory course is aimed at people with no formal legal training.

The course will run online and consist of four modules which will follow the legal journey from homelessness to temporary accommodation to (hopefully) secure housing. Participants are required to watch a 30 minute introductory video before each interactive session.

Week 1

Tuesday (17th Oct 2-4pm): Tenancies and other housing arrangements

Wednesday (18th Oct 2-4pm): Dealing with local authorities in the context of homelessness

Week 2:

Tuesday (24th Oct 2-4pm): Living in temporary accommodation

Wednesday (25th Oct 2-4pm): Bidding for social housing

It is important you are able to attend all four sessions as later sessions build upon the knowledge from previous ones.

The course is free to attend, but spaces are limited. We will prioritise participants from community/grassroot organisations and people with lived experience of the housing crisis. Due to limited capacity, we will accept a maximum of two participants per organisation.

Please register your interest in attending this course by Wednesday 12th September by filling in this form: https://d62bp2rkc9j.typeform.com/to/A2zd2KX2

We will let you know by Monday 18th September if you have secured a place.

After the course, we will organise two specialist follow-up sessions for our participants, in partnership with the Public Interest Law Centre, to explore strategic issues, systemic problems and roots to triage. This will also allow us to understand the challenges people face when applying the knowledge gained through our training.
