We are there for people when they cannot see an adviser or afford a solicitor and need help understanding how to stand up for their rights. Help us reach more people with a donation.
Evaluation of housing rights courses for trusted intermediaries
Over the past few years, Law for Life has developed public legal education courses for trusted intermediaries (who are usually frontline workers or trusted local community members) who help people in precarious housing situations. These courses address issues faced by people who are renting from private landlords and who may be vulnerable to eviction or poor housing conditions. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, these courses have been delivered online.
The Affordable Advice Service offers a unique blend of step-by-step guidance from Advicenow with fixed fee, unbundled legal advice from expert solicitors at the most crucial points in the process.
Our team brings together the best possible blend of knowledge, experience, and understanding of public legal education to help you develop your own work in whatever ways best suit your needs.
"I attended this course at a zoom meeting, it was really informative. So many things I did not know about. I am also homeless so it was really good for me, I learnt so many things."
How we can help you with research and evaluation projects
Research and evaluation is at the heart of everything we do. Law for Life’s research and evaluation programmes seek to deepen our understanding of legal need and the impact of different access to justice interventions.
We have worked with some of the UK’s leading researchers of legal need to uncover levels of legal capability across different cohorts and identify effective methods to improve them.
How public legal education can help bring about legal change for benefit claimants
"Hats off Law for Life! You made it happen, exposed the issue, made the call out and collated really strong evidence. Not bad for an organisation fairly new to system change litigation! Without you that practice would still be in operation."
