About the course
The course has been updated to include the key changes introduced by the Renters Rights Act, ensuring you understand the new rules around tenancies, disrepair, and evictions. It gives you the basic knowledge and skills you need to deal with key housing issues in privately rented accommodation.
You will be asked to watch a 30‑minute introductory video before each interactive workshop. The workshops will take place on the following dates:
- Tuesday, 14th July: Tenancies and other housing arrangements
- Wednesday, 15th July: How to get repairs done in your privately rented home
- Thursday, 16th July: Dealing with section 8 eviction notices
Who is this workshop for?
We are particularly keen to welcome people who are community volunteers, members of a support group, a grassroots mutual aid organisation, or something similar. Due to our funding requirements, we cannot offer places to people working in local authorities, housing providers, estate agents, or organisations that charge for their advice services.
The course is intended for organisations based in London, as our funding supports work within the capital.
You do not need to know anything about housing law to apply, as this introductory course is aimed at people with no formal legal training. The course will be delivered in English, and you can submit any accessibility needs in the registration form.
The workshop is free to attend. However, spaces are limited. We will prioritise participants from community, voluntary or grassroot organisations who have not previously attended one of our housing courses. Due to limited capacity, we will accept a maximum of two participants per organisation.
