About the course

The course will give you the basic knowledge and skills you need to deal with key housing and benefits issues faced by people who have left care.

The free online workshops will take place on the following dates:

  1. Introduction to housing options for care leavers - Monday 28th September 10am-12pm
This workshop will cover the support available to care leavers in the social housing and private rented sectors.
  2. Introduction to benefits for care leavers - Tuesday 29th September 10am-12.30pm
This workshop will look at what benefits are available for care leavers and ways to navigate the benefits system.

Who is this workshop for?

The course is aimed at frontline staff and volunteers from grassroots and community groups, charities and health organisations who regularly support young people. Due to funding requirements, we are unable to offer spaces to local authority staff, housing providers (including housing associations), estate agents, or organisations that charge a fee for frontline service provision. This workshop covers relevant law in England only.

The course is free to attend, but spaces are limited. We will prioritise people from community or grassroots organisations who have not already attended one of our housing courses. Due to limited capacity, we can accept a maximum of two people per organisation.

You do not need to know anything about housing law to apply, as this introductory course is aimed at people with no formal legal training. The course will be delivered in English, and you can submit any accessibility needs in the registration form.
