About the course

The workshop will take place on Tuesday 1st December 2026, 2pm - 4.30pm

This workshop is designed to help advisers, support workers, and community organisations assist people living in inadequate asylum accommodation.

Participants will learn:

  • Key Home Office policies and legal duties relevant to asylum accommodation
  • How to challenge the failure to provide adequate asylum accommodation
  • What policies you can use to ensure adequate accommodation is offered, including the location of accommodation
  • Other factors relevant to challenging inadequate asylum accommodation, with specific reference to room sharing and hotels.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for staff and volunteers from community, voluntary sector and grassroots organisations in England who regularly support people living in asylum accommodation. The workshop will not cover the asylum support system in detail - basic knowledge of Section 95 and Section 4 support will be assumed.

Due to funding requirements, we are unable to offer spaces to Home Office staff or contractors, housing providers (including housing associations), estate agents, or organisations that charge a fee for frontline service provision. This workshop covers relevant law in England only.

The workshop is free, but spaces are limited to a maximum of two participants per organisation. We will prioritise staff and volunteers from community, voluntary and grassroots organisations.
