Following the publication of Advicenow's new research report ‘Go away and fill out this massive form’: Local authority gatekeeping of homelessness assistance for refugees' we would like to invite you to the report launch and strategy workshop

Our research finds evidence that local authorities are placing barriers in the way of refugees accessing homelessness assistance to which they may be legally entitled to - a process known as ‘gatekeeping’. These findings are drawn from evidence provided by frontline practitioners who attended out training, and reported obstacles at every stage of the homelessness process.

The workshop will bring together grassroots and community groups, frontline advice organisations, legal professionals and academics to:

  • share experiences of local authority gatekeeping
  • hear about existing work to challenge unlawful practice, and
  • explore whether there is interest in coordinated or collective action.

We are delighted that the Alexandra Goldenberg (Public Interest Law Centre) and policy expert Kama Petruczenko will be joining us as speakers, plus further speaker TBC.

The workshop will take place online, on the Tuesday 13th October, 2-4 pm
