About the workshop
The workshop will include a practical session on writing strong suitability letters when requesting a suitability review.
If someone believes the temporary accommodation offered by the council is not suitable for their needs, they can request a suitability assessment. Providing clear evidence as part of that assessment can make a real difference in whether the council agrees that more appropriate accommodation is needed.
During the workshop, we will look at Advicenow’s information guide on How to challenge the decision about your homelessness application. The guide provides information on what evidence you need to gather to challenge the suitability of temporary accommodation offered by the council.
The online workshop will be delivered by our Associate Joanna Underwood and it will be structured in an interactive way allowing space for participants to ask questions and share experiences.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is intended for organisations in England, as legal frameworks differ across the devolved nations.
While this workshop is aimed at people with no formal legal training, you will get the most out of this course if you have some experience working/volunteering/lived experience of housing issues. The workshops will be delivered in English and accessibility requests can be submitted in the registration form.
We are particularly keen to invite participants who are community volunteers, members of a support group, a grassroots mutual aid organisation, or something similar.
The workshops are free to attend however, spaces are limited. We will prioritise participants from community/grassroot organisations who have not already attended one of our housing courses. Due to limited capacity, we will accept a maximum of two participants per organisation.
