This tool was designed to be used by all employees and workers in England and Wales

We created this tool because we want to help you deal with the problems that affect you at work. This tool will support you to write a formal complaint letter - called a grievance - to your employer. It makes it easier for you to make a complaint about workplace discrimination, harassment, or other unfair treatment you are experiencing. (See Unfair treatment at work for more information about what counts as discrimination).

Starting a grievance does not stop the clock running on the time limits for starting a case at the employment tribunal. Only contacting Acas about early concilliation does.

See Time Limits for employment tribunal for more information.

How to use this tool

Log in to use this letter tool. It asks you questions and uses your answers to create a letter about your employment grievance. You can save your progress and come back to it if you need to.

Please log in or create an account to submit this form

Have you tried solving the problem informally already?

If you haven’t, you might want to try that first. See our advice on how to sort out work problems informally.

This tool was produced by Advicenow. We would like to thank everyone who has commented or helped, particularly Clare Fowler from Your Employment Settlement Service, and Rebecca Thomas from 42BR Barristers.

This tool was created thanks to funding from the Ministry of Justice under the Online Support and Advice Grant.
